Ness Ness is the main character of Earthbound. He is well rounded and powerful, as most main characters are. He has a great balance of his different types of PSI, and good Healing abilities.

Paula Paula is the second character. Despite being a female character, she has no real healing abilites.....anyway, her attack PSI is strong, but physically she is fairly weak. She can use the unique pray ability to call a random effect.

Jeff Jeff can't use PSI, but some of his other abilities are invaluable. He can fix broken things you find, and make deadly weapons, and use dangerous Bottle Rockets.

Poo Yess, Poo. A great character. He has great healing abilities and can use the Deadly Starstorm. You don't get him as a party member until later, but is awesome to have anyway.

There are a few characters in the game that join you temporarily, but are computer controlled.
