Cecil
	Dark Knight/Paladin
	The main character of the story, Cecil is somewhat questionable to his king's method of ruling. From this, he is stripped of his command, and sent as a delivery boy. Because True darkness can never prevail over evil, Cecil must renounce the Dark Sword and forget his evil ways.

	Kain
	Dragooon
	Cecil's best friend. He is sent with Cecil to deliver the King's item to Mist and is separated in one of the following incidents. A good character, but somewhat shadowy with his personality.

	Rydia
	Summoner
	One of the last summoners of Mist. She is a powerful caller, although she doesn't know it. Her mother was killed by Cecil and Kain when they defeated her dragon.

	Rosa
	White Mage
	The love interest of Cecil in the story. Two quests involve saving her, so Cecil must really like her! She is very good to have in the group, and her Aim ability makes her arrows even more deadly.

	Tellah
	Sage
	The great sage from Mysidia stopped using magic after an accident and lost use of it over the years. His daughter ran away with a Bard, and he is trying to take her back.

	Edward
	Bard
	He ran away with Tellah's daughter to get married. His naturally frail body makes him physically weak, so he isn't the greatest of fighters. Because of this, he will hide when his HP gets low.

	Yang
	Monk
	High monk of Fabul, Yang is an excellent fighter. His special abilities include attacking all enemies with kick, inflicting Double damage, and creating his own protective barrier.

	Palom and Porom
	Black Mage/White Mage
	Twin mages of Mysidia, they each study a different art. They are sent with Cecil to help him when he arrives to the village, but it seems they have an alternate motive.

	Edge
	Ninja
	Prince of Eblana, Edge joins the party late in the game. He is capable of using deadly Ninja magic which is very hand to have. He is also Ambidextrous, so he uses one sword/claw in each hand. He can also steal items from monsters.

	FuSoYa
	Lunarian
	A mysterious guardian of the Lunarians, FuSoYa is a powerful sorcerer. When he joins your party, he can use nearly all spells and can regenerate Party HP with his Regen ability.
