Final Fantasy VII was the first original RPG for the PSX. The reason I say "Original" is because FFIV was remade about that same time in Japan. It was a smash hit. New breakthrough systems and FMV sequences. Some people consider it to be the greatest RPG of all time. I agree, myself.

The new system of "materia" was a great idea, and allowed more customization with your characters. THe limit break system was also a great innovation. (Although royally screwed up in FFVIII.) The game also introduced the ability to switch between party members at will, to allow more of a customized party.

In 1998, the game was released on PC with improved graphics and sound. I suggest you pick it up and play it if you haven't already, It's a great game.
